Project to protect the forest

You’ve probably heard about it at least once. Various changes and problems caused by global warming... Japan’s target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions is set at 6% under the Kyoto Protocol. The target for the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by domestic forests is 3.8%. To achieve this goal, the Forestry Agency is promoting a national project to actively use domestic wood, nurture healthy forests, and revitalize them.

What is thinning?

Thinning refers to the process of selectively removing trees that have become densely packed as the forest grows. Thinning is a very important "nurturing task" to keep the forest healthy. By thinning, the grown trees don’t overlap with each other and receive enough sunlight to grow strong. When sunlight reaches the ground, the undergrowth can also thrive, creating an environment that helps prevent landslides. The wood produced from this thinning process is called "thinned wood." Woody Bétta hopes many people will learn about this "forest nurturing work" and the thinned wood it produces.
